Meet the Artist
Camille Davidson
Readfield, Maine
From a Studio in a Tree House
Camille says she has the fabulous fortune of living in beautiful Maine where she continues to be inspired by the forest and lake that surrounds her small cabin. She lives with her partner of 48 years and her small dog Aurora. When she is not painting or having adventures with her grandsons, she operates a small, local commission-free gallery where she is able to feature local artists and community events.
Her studio is in a tree house, fifteen feet above ground, where she works daily. Summers and fall are busy in Maine, short and intense. They are the time to be outside, collecting visual information for the long winter ahead. Camille can often be found in her kayak on the lake with watercolors and paper. It is in the cold, long, quiet, contemplative winters that she is able to develop and deepen the work of all these summer collections.
Camille is inspired by her surroundings, both physical and emotional. She paints the different light that she sees at different seasons from her tree house studio window overlooking the forest, she responds to news, emotional ups and downs, the quiet and the shouting with and through color and shape. She digs, she scrapes the wax on her panel. She adds and subtracts until she achieves what feels like a particular energy, a balance, a state of presence, a finished painting. Camille uses encaustic paint when she feels called to or cold wax depending on what is emerging. She hopes her viewer will feel a familiar light, a familiar scene, a familiar state of being in the world we inhabit together.
