Coloring Theory in Practice
Artist Jennifer Shaw is a fine arts graduate of York Academy of Arts in York, Pennsylvania. Jennifer has created art using a variety of media which include oil paint, watercolor, pencil, wool fibers and alcohol ink. Jennifer's area of concentration has been in the study of color theory. Her past works of art have portrayed the theories of impressionism, capturing the atmosphere in natural settings.
Jennifer spent years as a painting instructor with classes focused on the seven contrasts of color, the elements of design, how they work and how to employ them in art. Needle felting was her main technique for creating art using various wool fibers from 2009 to 2022. Created by using a variety of gaged, barbed felting needles and animal wool fibers, the barbed needles catch and move the fibers as the needle is repeatedly jabbed into a fiber background. Jennifer strove to take the medium of wool to a whole new level by creating with wool what she once created with oils.
In 2023 Jennifer began experimenting with alcohol ink and fell in love with the medium. Alcohol ink is a highly pigmented fluid medium that is alcohol based, and when applied to a non-porous surface the alcohol pools and intermingles to create a variety of unique textures. Jennifer Shaw's art incorporates a wide variety of of techniques to manipulate the medium and use these techniques to portray the world around her.
Jennifer is a resident of Mount Vernon, Maine and works as a literary/reading teacher at Readfield Elementary School. She loves to garden, read, kayak, travel and spend time with family and friends.
