Exploring Maine, Reflected
Marylu Wellwood grew up on the coast of Massachusetts among many lakes, ponds, and beaches. Observing the movement and the many moods water creates, she attempted to capture and preserve that feeling with art.
After living on the west coast of Canada with her Canadian husband and starting a family there, she relocated with them to West Gardiner, Maine.
Although mostly self taught, Marylu studied drawing at the University of Maine at Augusta and enjoyed nearly 20 years teaching decorative art for Gardiner Adult Education. She has participated in many local art walks, exhibited at Longfellows Greenhouse (Manchester), The Framemakers Gallery (Waterville), Maine General Hospital (Augusta), Johnson Hall Performing Arts Center (Gardiner), and Granite Hill Estates in Hallowell.
The Augusta area benefits from 6 murals painted by Marylu, as well as a potato harvest mural at Stockholm Museum in northern Maine.
Marylu's goal is to capture the mood and beauty of different places. Many of her paintings reflect her time exploring the lakes, ocean and countryside. She lets her viewers step into a different day to feel the mood and beauty each one brings.
She currently lives in Litchfield, Maine.
