Meet the Artist
Robin Swennes
Arundel, Maine
Undeniable Need
Robin Swennes first realized as a child how art could transport her into another world when she was sent to her room for some infraction to ponder her wrong-doing. Always content to entertain herself, she leafed through a book of Walt Disney characters that inspired her to draw. When she emerged, she had several illustrations that amazed her parents and even moved a young, entrepreneurial friend to sell them to their neighbors.
Her family moved to Kennebunk, Maine in 1977 when her father and his business partner purchased a small grocery store in Cape Porpoise and Robin immediately fell in love with the state. After earning a 4-year Liberal Arts degree, she found employment in graphic arts doing freelance illustration for clients like Toms of Maine, and other local companies and book publishers. Nowadays, Swennes focuses on painting for its own sake because she just can't deny her need to put visions to canvas.
